As we have been operating at high levels on the Thailand golf scene for many years, we are always attuned to what our customers want, in terms of which kind of courses they like to play and the questions that keep popping up when we deal with clients. One of the most asked questions related to Thailand golf courses is the distances of the courses from not only the destinations in the major holiday locations, but also from local airports and the hotels they are staying at. As we offer golf services in areas such as Phuket, Chiang Mai and Pattaya, we have decided to give you a guide to Thailand golf course locations and distances from these areas.
Phuket Golf Course Locations
Relatively speaking, Phuket is an Island, albeit a large one, approximately the same size as Singapore. It takes roughly 45-minutes to 1-hour to drive from the northernmost tip of the island, near to Phuket international Airport, to the southernmost tip at Rawai, although at the moment of writing it can take up to 90-minutes because of construction. So pretty much every golf course from every major tourist destination on the west coast can be reached within 45-minutes, give or take a few minutes here and there.
Golf courses near to Phuket International Airport
Many people who come to play Phuket golf only come for a few days or a short break, mainly from other neighboring business hubs such as Hong Kong and Singapore. Sometimes their time is limited so they want to make the most of their time on the island.
If you are jetting into Phuket to play golf for a short break and are staying near Phuket International Airport, within a 5-minute drive you can visit the Blue Canyon Country Club, which is a famous international club and home to two top-notch Thailand golf courses – The Lakes Course and Blue Canyon Country Club. Also within a 20-minute drive of the airport, you will find the Jack Nicklaus-designed Mission Hills Phuket, which is the only seafront course on the island and comes under the world-famous Mission Hill banner that is famous across Asia for its golf resorts and stunning courses.
The Canyon Course at Blue Canyon Country Club is one of the most famous golf courses in Thailand, and was even a featured course on one of the EA Sports-branded Tiger Woods computer games. This stunning championship-style course is a must-play course when you visit Phuket, offering some of the most breathtaking vistas with shots across scenic canyons and gorges that give the course a truly inspiring atmosphere.
Phuket golf courses near to Patong beach
The most popular and visited tourist area on Phuket Island is undoubtedly Patong Beach. Patong is known for its action-packed nightlife scene, a large yet commercial beach, international shopping centers and a wide range of the best restaurants on the island with every cuisine style you can imagine, Patong really is a great place to stay.
Situated on the mid-west Phuket coastline, in a very central location to easily reach all parts of the island, it makes complete sense to stay in Patong while enjoying a Phuket golf holiday. Patong is home to some of the island’s best beachside resorts, hotels and even affordable guesthouses, culminating in the best accommodation choices in Phuket. Most of our packages include a stay in a Patong Hotel or Resort, so it is very important to know the distances from Patong to the island’s major golf courses.
The nearest Phuket golf courses to Patong Beach are located in the Kathu area, which is just a 10-15 minute drive from Patong depending on the traffic and time of the day. Kathu is home to not only some of the best Thailand golf courses in Phuket, but also some of the best value for money ones.
Red Mountain Golf Club is a championship course, built and designed on a former tin mine, weaving its way through beautiful red mountains, as the course’s name might suggest, and is currently seen by many as the best golf course in Phuket, overtaking The Canyon Course at Blue Canyon Country Club, but that is a matter of opinion. The best part is that it’s just a short drive from Patong beach.
Other popular golf courses in Kathu include Loch Palm Golf Club and Phuket Country Club, which are both seen as golfer friendly courses and are known to offer some of the most affordable green fees in Phuket. These three courses in Kathu are perfect for those of you staying in Patong.
Phuket courses up near the airport at Blue Canyon will take approximately a 45-minute drive from Patong, depending on the time of the day. Laguna Phuket Golf Club is located in Bang Tao, which is just a 35-minute drive from Patong, so that is not too far either.
Phuket Golf Courses near to Kata and Karon
The other most popular holiday destinations in Phuket, especially for families and couples, are at Karon and Kata beaches. These two areas are located a 15-minute drive south from Patong on the west coast and offer a truly laidback experience while still having lots of bars and restaurants that give the destinations a Western-flavor. The beaches at Kata and Karon are two of the best and much less commercial than Patong.
With a wide choice of Phuket resorts and hotels, Kata and Karon make for the perfect location to stay during your Phuket golf holiday. Although Blue Canyon is approximately a 60-minute drive from Karon and Kata, Kathu is less than a 30-minute drive, so the likes of Red Mountain, Loch Palm and Phuket Country Club are great choices. Laguna is more like a 35-minute drive away, with Mission Hills approximately 45-minutes.
Other notable destinations in Phuket for booking your hotel include Surin, Kamala, Laguna and Bang Tao, all of which are within a short distance to the Laguna Phuket Golf Club.

Pattaya Golf Course Locations
Pattaya is one of the most densely packed golfing paradises in the world, with over 20 Thailand golf courses within a 30-minute drive of Downtown Pattaya. The city is especially known for its nightlife pleasures with the main thoroughfares being Walking Street Pattaya, Sois 6 and 7, areas such as Naklua, Pratumnak Hill and Jomtien. Although nightlife is the order of the day in Pattaya, there are many family-style attractions in the regions surrounding the city such as over towards Bangsaray, East Pattaya, Na Jomtien and Huay Yai, making this one of the most eclectic and interesting places to live or holiday.
Golf Courses near to Downtown Pattaya
Obviously, there are no golf courses at all in the downtown area of Pattaya City because it’s a built-up and commercial place, but just outside the city there are quite a few choices. The closest golf courses to the city are the three at Siam Country Club – The Old Course, The Plantation and The Waterside. All three are located approximately a 25-minute drive from the city center in an area largely known as East Pattaya, near to Lake Mabprachan, which is a great place that is home to lots of the city’s more affluent expats and also comes with a great selection of Western-style bars and eateries.
Siam Country Club is 5-minutes further away from areas such as Jomtien and Huay Yai.
The Old Course at Siam Country Club is known as one of the best golf courses in Thailand and is the host of the Honda LPGA Classic every year, which is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments on the Asia Tour. Siam Country Club is easy to reach, so probably makes for the best option. The Plantation and The Waterside both have 5-star championship style conditions, so a round at any of the three is a real treat.
Another one of the region’s most popular courses is Phoenix Gold Golf Club & Country Club, situated to the south of Pattaya in the Huay Yai region, a 25-minute drive outside Pattaya city center. This is another popular course with local expats and locals.

There are a great range of courses within a 40-minute drive of Pattaya City Center such as the stunning Laem Chabang Country Club, Rayong Green Valley, Pattaya Country Club and St Andrews 2000.
Pattaya Golf Courses on the way to Suvarnabhumi Airport
Many of our customers visit Pattaya to play golf but only have limited time in the city and want to make the most of their time. We recommend that if you want to squeeze every last drop out of your Thailand golf experience, why not play a Pattaya golf course on your way to Suvarnabhumi Airport on the outskirts of Bangkok. Approximately a 45-minute to 1-hour drive from the city on your way to the airport, you will find quality golf courses such as Bangpra GC, Koh Kaew Country Club, Greenwood GC and Pattana Golf Club.

Chiang Mai Golf Course Locations
The Chiang Mai region is located in the northern reaches of Thailand and is an ancient old city with a rich tapestry of art and culture… and golf courses! Being such a cool and compact city, nearly all of our clients want to stay in the heart of the metropolis, and with so many great hotels and lots of chic and trendy bars, and art and culture spots, it’s no surprise. This however, does simplify the distances to and from the golf courses.
Golf Courses near to Chiang Mai City Center
Because many of the Chiang Mai golf courses are located in the countryside, all courses take a little bit of driving from Chiang Mai City. The closest golf courses from the city are the Summit Green Valley Chiang Mai Country Club (13km), and Maejo Golf Resort and Spa (15km).
The vast majority of the best courses, some of which sit in the foothills of the Doi Inthanon Mountain Range are a bit further away. The popular Alpine Golf Resort is 23km from the city, with other courses such as The Royal Chiang Mai Golf Resort (26km), and the Chiang Mai Highlands Golf Resort (26km).
When playing golf in Chiang Mai, most of the courses are a fair drive, but don’t let that put you off because the scenery in the surrounding regions is simply awe-inspiring in every way and the perfect place to play, especially with the temperatures being much lower than the sub-tropical locations of Phuket and Pattaya.
