Playing golf in a tropical climate sounds amazing doesn?t it? No more frozen winter greens, long trousers, jumpers, wooly hats or gloves. However, there are still some important things that you need to remember when playing golf in a hot climate such as in Phuket. We want you to be fully prepared for your Phuket golf experience so you can have the best time ever, and shoot some of the best scores possible.
Sunscreen and Umbrellas
On holiday, you really don?t want to get up at 6am in the morning to play golf, although on Phuket as soon as the sun rises is the best time to play. With temperatures that barely dip below 30 degrees, if your tee-off times are mid-morning, lunchtime or in the afternoon, make sure you have a applied a layer of sunscreen or have some in your golf bag at the ready. This is really important advice if you don?t want to look like last night?s lobster. A golf umbrella would also be a great item to have handy, which will keep you nice and fresh and block out the sun.
Did you know that if you are playing golf in a tropical climate and your mouth is already getting dry, you are in the midst of dehydration? Funnily enough, this will affect the way you concentrate and ultimately the way you play your round. It is highly important that you have lots of water on hand to rehydrate whenever possible. Make sure you have a bottle of water when you start the round. On all the courses in Phuket, you will encounter drink stops after every 3 or 4 holes. Always make sure you buy some more. It really is important.
Sense of Humor
Anytime I play golf, one of the most important things to bring along is a good sense of humor, regardless of which country you are playing in. Asian culture is a little different to the western world. In Thailand, to lose your temper in public is basically losing face. Always keep a smile on your face, even more so in the face of adversity. Keep a smile on your face and a positive attitude and you can enjoy any round of golf, no matter how well, or bad in my case, you are playing.
