Phuket Beaches

No doubt when researching your next holiday destination, when you encountered Phuket, the beach photos probably jumped off the page and stuck in your memory banks. They really are that beautiful. Over the years, the commercial nature of the island’s tourism industry has turned these once idyllic beaches into busy hives of tourist activity, which has worked for some and maybe not for others.

However, despite the mass tourism, Phuket still has lots of cool beaches, some of which remain uncluttered while others offer lots of different angles, depending on what you are looking for.

Fun Beaches

If you are looking for the busiest beaches with lots happening, not many can compare to Patong Beach. This area is the island’s number-1 tourist destination, and although the beach is still in great condition, it is busy most days. Chilling on Patong Beach is cool and convenient, and with hundreds of restaurants and masses of shops along Patong Beach Road, you are never far away from the action.

Phuket beaches for watersports

Despite having so many beautiful beaches on the west coast, not so many specialize in watersports. For sure, you can visit the beaches at Patong or Karon and ‘ride the banana’ or hire a Jet-ski, but if you are looking for surfing and other watersport activities such as wakeboarding and the like, you need to head down to Kata Beach on the southern-west coastline.

During the lower season months of the year between May and November, Kata Beach is perfect for surfing and other watersports. There are many shops lining the beach that will rent watersport equipment for extremely affordable prices.

Most beautiful Phuket beaches

The quieter beaches in Phuket are the ever-popular Nai Harn Beach on the southern coast, and others such as Surin and Kamala, which are not only relaxing and beautiful beaches, but also have a few shops and restaurants nearby. If you are looking for something more idyllic, we would suggest Ya Nui Beach in the south, or those stretches of sand on the north-west coastline such as Nai Yang and Mai Khao.
